Common Questions from T-Ball/Coaches Pitch Parents
Something Else (including issues with the website)
When should I apply for next season?
Dearborn Baseball will begin accepting applications on January 1. The deadline is April 1.
What do I need to print and send in?
Print and send in 3 copies of the application. Also send in the waiver signed by two parents/guardians and a check made payable to Dearborn Baseball. You may include a stamped, self-addressed envelope if you would like confirmation that your application was received. Complete these steps for each child.
Does Dearborn Baseball accept applications post-marked on the deadline?
Yes. The application must be post-marked on or before the April 1 deadline. No applications will be accepted after that date. DO NOT CONTACT COMMISSIONERS ABOUT MISSED DEADLINES.
What should I do if I missed the deadline for this season?
All of our deadlines are strictly upheld. There will be no exceptions. If you missed the deadline for this season, please wait and apply for next season. Applying early and including all necessary information is the best way to ensure a spot for your child in the league. Under no circumstances should you call your league commissioner regarding missed deadlines.
When will I receive confirmation that my child was accepted into the league?
If you include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your application, then you will receive that envelope back as your confirmation. The envelope may be empty, have a small note or be marked. Receipt of the envelope itself is your confirmation.
If you do not include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your application, you may not receive any word at all from the league until mid-May. Checks are cashed in groups as we process applications so your check may not be cashed until May. Coaches do not call their players until the middle of May. If you do not send the envelope, do not accept any type of confirmation until sometime in May.
What do I need to include when applying for next season?
Please see our Application Information page for a detailed account of what needs to be included with your child’s application.
Where can I get an application for next season?
Applications are usually available on our website at the bottom of the Application Information page starting in January and are at the front desk of Dearborn’s Ford Community & Performing Arts Center beginning in February.
What is your refund policy?
NO refunds will be issued after the teams are selected, except in compelling circumstances or under one of the following conditions. Your check will be returned if:
1) Your application is late 2) The division is full 3) A team doesn't exist because there is no coach 4) Your child is cut from a travel team or a 16+ league 5) We put your child in a league other than the one you selected for them 6) You withdraw your application before teams are selected
If your child does not like their team or changes their mind about playing, do not expect a refund. ABSOLUTELY NO refunds will be issued after the season has started.
Can I request a team or coach on my application?
NO. We do not honor team or coach requests.
If I sign my child up to play in Dearborn Baseball, will they play on a team with other kids from their school? For high school and middle school players, will they play on a team with kids from their school teams?
No. There is no guarantee that your child will play with children from their school or from their school baseball team.
An effort is made to put kids in the same neighborhood or school on the same team but the numbers never work out and people always end up being moved around.
Can non-Dearborn residents apply? How much does it cost?
Dearborn Baseball may accept non-Dearborn residents at no additional cost. However, Dearborn residents receive priority over non-residents. Applying early should take care of this problem but a spot is not guaranteed for non-residents.
If my child's birthday is after the deadline, can I sign them up for an older league?
Yes. We routinely allow children whose birthday is after the deadline to play in an older league. However, we are trying to make the younger leagues more competitive. When at all possible, you should keep your child in their appropriate league based on age. We understand that your child may get bored with 2 or 3 years of one league, but to improve the league as a whole, the age guidelines need to be followed.
The exception is travel teams. Players who participate in tournaments should sign up for the proper league based on their age at the deadline.
The league reserves the right to place your child in the division of our choice and the team of our choice as may be in the best interest of the leauge. We reserve the right to place players in an appropriate league for their age, no matter what preference was marked on the application, for any reason.
In the past, the application process required a birth certificate. Should I include a copy of my child's birth certificate with the application?
No. We have eliminated our birth certificate requirement. If you're child is participating in a travel league, then you may be asked for a copy by your team's coach.
The applications are confusing. Who do I complain to?
Please email admin.dbnbaseball@gmail.com with any questions or comments regarding the applications.
When does the season start?
The season starts the last week of May or the first week of June. Consult the cover letter included with your application packet for an exact date. Cover letters are also available on our application page. Practices begin in May. You will be called by a coach by midi-May. Do not call your commissioner regarding teams before the second week of May.
When will new schedules be up on the site?
As soon as they are available. Each year's schedules are usually not complete until lat May. The previous year's schedules are left on the site for your reference. Schedules usually don't change much from year to year.
Where are the games played?
A list of fields used by the league is available on the Schedule page. All fields are within Dearborn at local parks or schools. Only travel teams will play outside of Dearborn. Please consult your league schedule for specific game locations.
What do I do if it rains on a day when my child has a scheduled practice or game?
If you have any doubts about the status of a game or practice, then you should call the coach of your child's team. If you cannot reach the coach, you should show up at the designated place and time for the practice or game. Do not call your league commissioner as they will have no information regarding the status of your game. Rainouts and make-up games are up to coaches and umpires.
What days to the teams play on?
Teams may play on any day, including Sunday. However, T-Ball generally plays on M/W, Coaches Pitch on T/TH, Mustang on M/W/Su, Bronco on M/W/F, and Pony on T/F/Su. Examine the schedules from last year, available on the Schedule page, if you have questions.
Will my child play night games?
Night games may be scheduled in Mustang, Bronco, and High School Boys Travel Team leagues. There are no night games in softball.
Will my child play doubleheaders?
Teams may play doubleheaders in Mustang, Bronco, and High School Boys Travel Team leagues.
Are directions to the fields available?
All games for non-travel teams are played within the city of Dearborn, usually at local parks or schools. However, for those new to the area, maps of the sites are available on the Schedule page.
What time are the games at?
Games in all leagues are usually played in the evening. Please consult your league schedule for specific times.
If I sign my child up for Dearborn Baseball, is my child guaranteed a place in the league?
No. A late application may be returned. A particular division may be full. A particular team may fail to exist if there is no coach. Also, your child may be cut if they are involved with a travel team. All travel teams have try-outs and only the best players are selected.
If any of the above happens, then you receive a full refund.
What leagues can accommodate children that have never played organized baseball before?
If under 13, children who have never played organized baseball before should be able to acclimate to the appropriate league for their age group. However, boys and girls aged 13 and older may have trouble adapting to our more competitive, older leagues. The leagues for children aged 13 and up require greater skill and knowledge of the game than the leagues for younger children. They can also be quite competitive and players will be cut (ages 15-18). Please make a realistic evaluation of your child's skill level before signing them up for our older leagues. Your child is not guaranteed a spot in the 16 and Under league and 19 and Under league. Only the best players will be selected in these older divisions.
How do I know what baseball or softball league my child should be in?
Boys (Age as of April 30), Girls (Age as of January 1)
T-Ball Ages 5-6
Coaches Pitch Ages 7-8
10 & Under Ages 8-10
12 & Under Ages 10-12

Can 4-year-olds play T-Ball?
Players should turn 5 before or during the season (the months of May, June or July).
What kind of baseballs do the T-Ball, Coaches Pitch and 10 & Under leagues use?
They use IRF baseballs, which are somewhat rubberized to reduce injury.
What leagues are travel leagues?
All of our 15 and older leagues, boys and girls, are travel leagues. They are more competitive and will require driving to games in other cities. These leagues have cuts and no player is guaranteed a spot. We also offer travel leagues for our younger players. Ask your league commissioner if you are interested in travel baseball.
